PALAZZI COMMUNITY SERVICE FOR OXFAM
This semester, Palazzi Community Service volunteers Samuel Cho, Julie Colangelo and Deshani Senewirathne were selected to collaborate with Oxfam, an international confederation dedicated to fighting world poverty and injustice. During their studies at FUA, these students also dedicated their time to Oxfam Italia and the Coltiva campaign. Coltiva in Italian literally means to “cultivate or grow”, and this campaign is the theme for the November 30, 2012 benefit aperitivo these students organized the Ganzo Cultural Association; this event is not only help to grow funds and awareness for the Oxfam organization, but also to cultivate the personal growth of the students through their volunteer experience and integration into the Florentine community. Community Service is meant to increase student understanding of what it really means to become part of the community, and by working directly with this non-profit organization, Sam, Julie, and Deshani have the opportunity to directly interact with Florence as well as contribute to Oxfam Italia by raising awareness of the Coltiva campaign. Palazzi thanks these students for their commitment to the Community Service program and their own cultivation of Oxfam Italia awareness in Florence.
